F. major – 6-10’ HT & 6’ SP
As you can see, there’s considerable overlap concerning the size.
F. gardenii ‘Suzanne’ – good, reliable dwarf, very dark green foliage
F. gardenii ‘Mt. Airy’ – usually grows to 5-6’ HT
F. major ‘Blue Shadow’ – very slow growing, easy to keep to 2-3’ HT, beautiful blue foliage
FOLIAGE Usually dark green, somewhat glossy, stands up well to heat and humidity. Fall foliage is outstanding, usually yellow, orange and red all on the same plant.
FLOWER White, fragrant, bottlebrush flowers in early spring before the plant leafs out.
FRUIT Capsule, not showy. Rarely observed.
GROWING CONDITIONS Full Sun to Part Shade. Prospers in acid soil, though seems to do well in a variety of soils as long as there is good drainage. Full Sun will promote the best fall foliage.
