Japanese Plum Yew

COMMON NAME	Japanese Plum Yew
BOTANICAL NAME *	Cephalotaxus harringtonia
ZONE	6- 9
SIZE	Slow growing. Varies depending upon the cultivar used. See cultivars below.
FOLIAGE	Needle evergreen, deep green in color, similar in type to English Yew. This is a Deer Resistant substitute for English Yew.
GROWING CONDITIONS	Prefers Part Shade to Shade, but have seen some specimens in Full Sun. Prefers moist, well-drained soil, but once established, can tolerate some drought.
NOTES	Deer Resistant.
FAVORITE CULTIVARS	C. harr. ‘Fastigiata’ – columnar form, usually only 3’ HT by 1’ SP in nursery. Slow growing. May eventually reach 10’ HT by 6’ – 8’ SP. Good substitute for Taxus x media ‘Hicksii’. C. harr. ‘Drupacea’ – shrub form with drooping branches, sometimes growing 6 to 10’ tall and wide. C. harr. ‘Duke Gardens’ – becomes a vase shaped shrub usually 4’ tall and wide. C. harr. ‘Prostrata’ – groundcover form, and may eventually reach 2-3’ HT by 2 – 3’ SP.
